Letters of Engagement - Why you, the client, should ask for oneAs the client (whether of a law firm, accountants, or other services professional), it is usually a good idea to ask for a Letter of Engagement. This is basically a letter from the professional which outlines to you, the client the following:

We recommend to prospective and existing clients that they request the letter of engagement after any meeting which is held to discuss possible representation by our firm. Of course, the client is also expected to return a signed copy of the letter to us, which lets us know that you have read and understood the letter and the scope and extent of the services which will be provided.
