Commercial LawIn the area of commercial law, the practice centres on contracts, sales and real estate transactions. Contracts in Panama are governed by the Civil and Commercial codes, although the contracts which we deal with are principally governed by the Commercial code as they are of a commercial nature. Our lawyers can also assist with transactions involving negotiable instruments and their creation. This may include advice regarding secured transactions. Real estate transactions in Panama are generally registered at the Public Registry. Before you purchase property, a title search should be undertaken to ensure that there are no encumbrances on the title. If the property which you are planning to purchase is not titled (such as rights of possession), then you should get adequate legal advice regarding the nature of the title and the precautions which you should take to ensure that it will not later be disputed.
