Requesting Naturalisation in Panama
After having permanent residency in Panama (for 3 years if you a married to a
Panamanian or 5 years otherwise), you may request naturalization by presenting
the following:
- Power of Attorney and
Application through a duly qualified lawyer or law firm
- Five (5) sworn declarations
before a Civil Circuit Judge, in the district in which you are a resident.
- Certification of your
Immigration Status
- Certification from
the Department of Identification - Civil Registry (Cedulacion)
- Medical Exams
- Economic Solvency
- Nationality of the
Applicant
- Photocopy of Current Passport
- Two (2) Passport photos
- B/.20.00 for Calligraphy
- B/.10.00 for authentication of the approved resolution
- B/.300.00 in stamp duty. This is paid once the application is
approved by the Executive Branch.

 | Manifestation of the freely and spontaneous desire to take Panamanian

The witnesses, in their sworn declarations before the Civil Circuit Judge in
the district in which the applicant resides, should express the reasons by which
they known and can give faith to the facts to which they are attesting:
 | If they know the applicant or if there is any familiarity or affinity with
them; |
 | If they can give faith to the continual and uninterrupted residence in
Panama for the 3 or 5 years, as the case may be, and why they are sure of
this; |
 | If they can give faith that the person has had proper conduct during this
time |
The judge shall certify as to the reputation of the witnesses. Article
896 of the Judicial Code shall apply to the sworn declarations.
The copies of the cédulas of each of the witnesses shall be attached to each
of the declarations.

 | Proof of Syphilis and V.D.R.L. (Veneral Diseases) |
 | Thoracic Cavity Exams |
 | General Medical Certificate which certifies that you do not have any
sickness or any infectious or contagious diseases |
 | Certificate issued by a duly qualified professional, which certifies that
you have no mental illness |
Economic Solvency is evidenced by the
presentation of:
 | Employment letter - accompanied by the Social Security Board slip or
cheque slip (if you are a government employee) |
 | Income tax returns |
 | Banking reference letter |
 | Birth Certificate |
 | Original passport with which they entered the country; or |
 | Any other document authenticated by the competent authorities of the
country of origin. |
Should be duly authenticated by a Notary Public (and must include ALL pages
of the passport)
 | Ladies should wear sleeve blouses, which do not show cleavage |
 | Gentlemen - should be attired with tie & jacket |

For those who are applying for naturalisation based on subsections 2 or 3 of
Article 10 of the National Constitution, they should attach, in addition to the
above requirements, the following documents:
- Subsection 2 of Article 10:
- Marriage Certificate
- Birth Certificate of the Panamanian Spouse and children
- Subsection 3 of Article 10:
- Photocopy of the Reciprocity Law, duly authenticated by the Panamanian
Consulate in their country of origin.
- Certification, issued by the consulate of their country of origin in
Panama, which certifies the existence and validity of the Reciprocity Law.
