Special Visas to Visit Family Members

This special visa is available to foreigners who wish to visit the following family members:

bullet

spouses

bullet

parents or children

bullet

brothers or sisters

Obviously, the family member living in Panama must have residency of some type.

It is possible for the family member to arrive on a tourist visa, and complete the requirements to request this visa during their stay.  If they have a 30-day visa, then they must complete and submit the application during these 30 days.  If they have a 90-day visa, then they must present the application during the 90 days.  It is NOT possible to request this visa after requesting an extension of the tourist visa.

Application:

In order to start the application for this visa, the visitor must register at the Immigration Department

Requirements:

You need to come with the following documents, duly authenticated

  1. Police record

  2. Marriage Certificate - if applicable

  3. Birth Certificate(s) - as applicable

The Marriage Certificate is applicable where you are coming to visit your spouse.

If you are coming to visit your parents or your children, then you need to bring your or their birth certificates - this is what shows the direct relationship between you.  If you are coming to visit your brother or sister, then you need to bring both birth certificates, to show the shared parentage.

You need to take care of the following requirements in Panama:

  1. Cheque for $100.00 to the Immigration Department (payable to Tesoro Nacional)

  2. Medical Certificate (Gray & Co. can assist you with this)

  3. Passport photos (you can also get these taken in the kiosk in front of the Immigration Department)

  4. Letter of responsibility from family member in Panama (where they accept financial and residential responsibility for you).
We can prepare this letter for them, if required.

  5. Copy of the family member's residency card (certified by the Immigration Department or by the Civil Registry if a cédula)

  6. Proof of the economic solvency of the resident:

bullet

Panamanian Tax Returns

bullet

Employment letter + copy of the Social Security chit

bullet

Banking reference letter (only where they have a CD of at least $100,000.00 for at least 1 year or more)

bullet

Pension letter

The following documents will be prepared by Gray & Co. for your signature:

  1. Power of Attorney

  2. Application to the Immigration Department

  3. Certified copy of your passport (all pages)

Upon receipt of the application, you will receive from the Immigration Department a 3-month processing card. Upon approval of the visa, you will then receive a 9-month Special Visa, together with a Multiple Entry-Exit Permit
