There is an option for investors in a Processing Zone, for those who invest at least One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars (US $150,000.00). This is based on Law 25 of 1992.

Where the investor has dependents who will also be included in the application, an additional US$2,000.00 capital per dependent must be invested.

Process in a Nutshell

  1. Register with the Immigration Department
  2. Incorporate the Company, get the business license, register with Social Security and set up the payroll (see Doing Business in Panama);
  3. Register with the Technical Secretariat of the Film Commission, of the Ministry of Commerce;
  4. Apply for the Immigrant Visa as an Investor in a Film Company;
  5. Receive your temporary permit for a 3-month period (Provisional Residency Permit) from the Immigration Department.  If you would like to be able to travel out of the country, you will also need to get the 3-month Multiple Entry/Exit Permit;
  6. Upon approval of your visa, you will be issued a 2-year residency card;
  7. Before your Provisional Residency Permit expires (at the end of the 2 years), you should apply for Permanent Residency as an Immigrant Investor;
  8. You will be granted at this time another temporary permit (3-months) while your paperwork is reviewed;
  9. Granting of your Permanent Residency by the Immigration Department, and issuance of the letter to the Civil Registry authorising the granting of a Cédula (see explanation regarding cédulas);
  10. Go to the Civil Registry and get your Cédula;
