Eminent DomainEminent domain is the right of a government to take or purchase private property for public use. Private property is guaranteed in Panama by the Constitution. In the United States, there have been eminent domain cases, where the Government has ruled to purchase private property even where the owners did not wish to sell, which was upheld by the Supreme Court. See But, eminent domain is not actually the subject of debate currently. It is not part of the bill which is being considered before the Panamanian Legislature.
